It’s a little sad…

…How over excited I am about my business cards.

I’ve ordered them from Moo.com and hopefully will arrive tomorrow :D

I must be getting old now that I find such things exciting.

Lomography.

It’s either crap, or genius.

I can’t decide which.

At uni the current project idea is to become professionalised. You may have noticed Ive deleted some points from my blog that are unrelated to my practice. This is an image from a shoot ive done to support my manifesto brief.

I feel Google are onto a good thing at the moment. Their adverts to promote their internet services are doing much more than just boosting the number of Chrome users, but also touching on good causes. The last Chrome advert I saw introduced me to this wonderful project.

The ‘It Gets Better’ project is reaching out to teen LBGT (Lesbian, Bi, Gay and Transgender) to let them know, it gets better. Anyone can submit a video to spread the message, in an attempt to save the bullied youth with alternative sexuality.

Many celebrities have also taken the pledge to pass the message on. Faces such as Lady Gaga, President Obama, Ke$ha, and others such as the Pixar employees in the video above.

What they say is very emotional as well as inspirational. Its made me consider starting my own project, photographing LBGT people ad couples in beautiful portraits to strengthen the message that it does get better. Something to think about :)

A student on my course created a piece almost identical to this, photographing the each window of the halls buildings in Winnal, Winchester at both day and night.
I wasn’t overly sure if I liked it when I saw it, there were obvious quilting lines and in the image which disjointed the reality. Also because she had shot the windows from the ground looking up they didn’t lie flat like the image above.
This image has shown how successful the concept is when executed well. Its not just the quality that makes it a better image but because you can believe this image isn’t edited, even if it has been.
I wonder if she ever fell over this image…

This is my best work from the last academic year on display in the Winchester School of Art Gallery a few months ago for the Genius Loci exhibition.
I put a lot into the project, it was really emotional having to photograph the house in that state, let alone the fact my Nan would never be there again.
Too see the two images in better quality check out my online portfoilio.

Today while researching for my upcoming holiday in september I stumbled over a blog for the Disney parks. I went back over quite a lot of posts from this year and found several talking about Annie Leibovitz Disney dream portraits.

I’m already a massive fan of Leibovitz, and finding these images made my day. They combine her fantastic photographic skills, with Disney storys played out by celebrities. I’ve chosen 4 of the most outstanding that I’ve found on the net. I really want to be able to make images to a simular quality, they are absolutely stunning.

I’ve always wondered if she does her own editing…
